Dr. Ciarán Coyle is a Registered and Chartered Clinical Psychologist (PSI) with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College Dublin (2007–2010). He brings over 18 years of extensive experience working within the Irish health services, as well as private practice and academic roles. Throughout his career, Dr. Coyle has been deeply committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based psychological care to adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children.
At Private Therapy Clinic Ireland, Dr. Coyle plays a leading role in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, particularly in the diagnostic process for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). His collaborative approach ensures that each client benefits from the collective expertise of psychologists, psychiatrists, and allied professionals, resulting in thorough, accurate assessments and integrated care plans.
Dr. Coyle’s expertise spans a wide range of clinical areas. He has many years of experience in neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnosis, including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and intellectual disabilities. He also specialises in psychoeducational assessments within school settings, supporting children and adolescents in achieving their potential by ensuring their needs are properly identified and addressed.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Coyle has worked across diverse clinical environments, including hospitals, community clinics, and family services. He previously held the position of Clinical Lead for the Substance Use Programmes at the National Forensic Mental Health Service, where he worked for five years. In this capacity, he developed specialist expertise in working with individuals experiencing substance use difficulties, complex mental disorders, and personality problems, with a particular interest in Borderline Personality Disorder.
Dr. Coyle has also worked internationally in Vietnam and Singapore, bringing a cross-cultural perspective to his clinical practice. Alongside his clinical work, he has contributed to academia, serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin for nine years, where he lectured, supervised, and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.
Therapeutically, Dr. Coyle has completed training in multiple modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Systemic Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Schema Therapy. His integrative style allows him to tailor treatment to each client’s needs, combining scientific evidence with a compassionate, person-centred approach. Sessions typically last around 50 minutes and are available in person, by video, or by telephone.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Coyle has significant experience in forensic psychology. He has prepared medico-legal reports for both civil and criminal cases and has served as an Expert Witness in the District and High Courts in Ireland. His forensic work is informed by his strong background in mental health, developmental disorders, and substance use.
