Eleanor Short is a dedicated Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with a strong academic background in psychology and neuroscience. She graduated with First-Class Honours in BSc Psychology from the University of Roehampton and recently completed an MSc in Neuroscience with a specialisation in Cognitive Neuroscience at King’s College London.
Eleanor has developed extensive theoretical knowledge through her studies and is now gaining hands-on clinical experience at The Private Therapy Clinic. Alongside her work as a practitioner, she is also a Research Assistant at King’s College London within the NEUROADS Lab, contributing to research on neurological, affective, and dissociative symptoms.
Passionate about neuropsychology, Eleanor is working under the guidance of Dr Letizia De Mori, a leading Neuropsychologist at the clinic, to further develop her expertise. Her long-term ambition is to qualify as a Clinical Psychologist and specialise in Neuropsychology after completing a doctorate.
Eleanor has worked in multiple client-facing roles and is currently undergoing clinical supervision to refine her therapeutic skills. She attends weekly supervision and training sessions with experienced therapists, continually enhancing her professional knowledge.
She has a special interest in gambling addiction, phobias, and panic attacks, among other mental health concerns. Eleanor is trained to identify signs of gambling addiction and has worked closely with the Safer Gambling sector, equipping her with expertise in evidence-based techniques for treating addiction. She is also highly knowledgeable in managing phobias and panic attacks, helping clients regain control over their fears and anxiety.
Recently, Eleanor completed an ADHD training course, allowing her to provide structured 10-session ADHD therapy. This programme is designed to help individuals understand and manage their symptoms, improving focus, organisation, and emotional regulation.
Eleanor has in-depth knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is trained in David Clark’s CBT treatment protocols, which are particularly effective for gambling addiction. Through CBT, Eleanor helps clients identify and change irrational thought patterns associated with gambling, replacing destructive behaviours with healthier coping mechanisms.
CBT is also highly effective for treating phobias and panic attacks. Eleanor works collaboratively with clients to create realistic, achievable goals, guiding them through exposure therapy when necessary. This approach helps desensitise individuals to their fears, enabling them to regain confidence and control.
Understanding that some psychological difficulties stem from deep-rooted childhood experiences, Eleanor also has insight into Psychodynamic Therapy. She acknowledges how subconscious experiences shape thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and she integrates this understanding into her therapeutic approach when needed.
Eleanor is committed to equipping clients with practical coping strategies that enable them to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours effectively. She believes that therapy, while challenging, is a brave step towards personal growth and well-being.
Eleanor’s primary goal is to make therapy as comfortable and accessible as possible, adapting her approach to suit each individual’s needs and pace. She values the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship, creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can express themselves freely.
During the initial session, Eleanor takes the time to listen, understand a client’s difficulties, and collaboratively set clear therapy goals. This ensures a structured and personalised treatment plan, allowing clients to get the most out of therapy and work towards meaningful progress.
Through her expertise in evidence-based therapies and commitment to continuous learning, Eleanor strives to provide the highest quality psychological support, helping clients navigate their mental health challenges with confidence and clarity.
