Born in Hong Kong, Dr. Wong moved to Ireland to pursue his medical studies at the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), graduating with his MB BCh BAO degree in Medicine in 2013. His early commitment to psychiatry led to extensive postgraduate training across multiple areas of mental health, including general adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and liaison psychiatry. He has held senior positions in some of the country’s most respected mental health institutions, including Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Galway University Hospitals, and St John of God Community Services.
Dr. Wong’s current HSE role as Consultant Psychiatrist at Connolly Hospital complements his private practice, ensuring that his work is always aligned with the highest standards of psychiatric care. His experience includes working within early intervention psychosis teams, liaison psychiatry services in general hospitals, and community-based multidisciplinary teams, giving him a broad understanding of complex mental health presentations.
In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Wong has pursued specialist certifications to enhance his expertise. He is formally trained in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), enabling him to conduct comprehensive autism assessments for both adults and children. He has also completed training in the Management of Really Sick Patients with Anorexia Nervosa (MARSIPAN) protocol, equipping him with advanced skills in the management of eating disorders. His further professional development includes training in Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches, which he integrates into his psychiatric practice when clinically indicated.
Dr. Wong is a member of both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, holding the MRCPsych and MCPsych qualifications.
